Skate for Two
This is an individual project for the first semester of the fourth year. In the studio named “velocity” with respect to “Transportation design”, we observed the vehicles, their users and their relationship with the city. During the research period, I examined rowing canoe, skateboard and bicycle – then I focused on skateboard and the reasons which prevent it to be used in the conventional traffic. During the process, I studied different types of the skateboards with different wheel configurations, made interviews with the users and used it myself. In the end, I decided to finalize the project by solving problems in relation to
three main topics without losing the spirit of skateboard: the topics were brake, steering and balance. I designed a skateboard to be used by two persons, but it canalso be used by one person. By means of the sliding magnetic plates under the deck, the boards can be easily separated and the stick is used for steering and brake. The most exciting part of the project was to produce more than one full-sized prototypes, to experience them on my own and enable possible users to experience it as well.
